The Greyster is a noble, harmonious dog. His upright posture and balanced movements make him majestic. The Greyster is a mixed breed dog from the Norwegian pointing dog and mixed Greyhound to breed a faster type of dog, which is also persistent. This type of dog comes from Norway and is mainly used in sled dog sport.
Origin and origin
Around 1980 a group from the Norwegian sled dog sport started to cross the Greyhound blood into the pointing dog. The proportion of Greyhound blood is deliberately kept low in order to maintain the endurance of the dogs. Sometimes also pointer lines are crossed in order to breed the dog smaller (body size) again.
The well-known Norwegian musher Lena Boysen Hillestad works centrally to preserve this type of dog. She has crowned her work with numerous national and international titles (14 World, 13 European and 20 Norwegian Champion titles). Nowadays, you hardly have a chance to win the short sprint distances without knowing the so-called Greysters in the team.
Appearance, anatomy and health
The Greyster looks like a large pointing dog with a high physique; its limbs are longer and finer. Especially his leg muscles are very well developed. His harmonious physique guarantees strength, endurance and speed. His hair is shiny, short and dense and you can see them in many variations of brown, brown mold, black mold, black and white, each with plates and spots. Its short fur is easy-care. The ears are somewhat longer than with the German Shorthair, high and broadly set on, smooth and without rotation densely hanging down at the head, below rounded off.
Essence
Its character is reliable and balanced when used to full capacity. He has a restrained temperament and is neither nervous, shy nor aggressive. His originality is striking.
Application
The Greyster is specially bred for the sled dog sport, but is also suitable as a family dog if handled correctly. He is a devoted companion dog. This dog needs however much movement and appropriate tasks, since it has a large hunting dog portion. Greysters possess an extraordinary amount of energy. They are behaving soriginell and pay attention to every communication of their owner. Suitable activities are all forms of nose work such as mantrailing and retrieval training. He is very suitable for work in front of the sled, but is sensitive and very quick in the perception of any situation - positive as well as negative.
